ABOUT NEW PROSPECTS

We are New Prospects and we’ve been supporting people with a learning disability for more than 30 years.  We’ve learned a lot over the years from people we support, their families and our staff and we’ll keep on learning and changing to make sure we give people what they want.

We are small local and well connected, being small doesn’t mean we don’t think BIG!

We are a Co-operative and Community Benefit Society which means we are not for profit - we only exist to support people to live their good life.  We know that good support relies on great staff so we try to support staff well, and try to pay more than other organisations who do similar work.

We are proud of being a local organisation, serving people in their communities, and also proud that we play our part in making the communities where we live and work better for everyone.

Our Story

We started in 1990 when the two long stay hospitals in the North East, Northgate and Prudhoe, began closing.  We started with one residential home, supporting five people.

We’ve grown gradually over the years and now support more than 150 people and employ more than 300 staff.  We support people to live in their own homes (supported living) and also support people who might just need a few hours of support per week to get up, get out and get connected.

We poke our nose into all sorts of things, and stumble into partnerships almost by accident - leading to, amongst other things;

  • a honey enterprise 'Whitley Bee'

  • we've found ourselves planning a bakery and enterprise space in Whitley Bay Metro

  • We run and support the Green Beans Market

Now we are on the verge of setting up something called 'Citizen Armies' more on all of this soon...

About

GET SOCIAL

We are not great at social media but our Facebook page is where we share some of the great things people we support do, with our support quietly in the background.

We know that real life happens in the real world and are proud to be a kind and helpful supporter to lots of local community groups, from supporting community gardens, running local community markets to funding armchair warrior fitness classes...

We are not that great at updating our website either, but our news section below will give you a flavour of what we are up to.
